Parents across the UK are anticipating significant increases in household expenses during school holidays, according to a recent survey. Many report that the costs associated with children’s increased consumption of food, water, and electricity place additional strain on family budgets during the summer break.

The survey, conducted by Utility Warehouse, found that 72 percent of parents are frustrated by the rising utility bills caused by children’s habits such as frequent snacking, extra showers, and extensive use of electronic devices including games consoles. Over one-third of respondents (37 percent) stated their household expenses climb by at least £175 during the summer vacation compared to other times of the year.

In addition to financial pressures, nearly half of the parents surveyed (46 percent) indicated they experience conflicts with their children related to boredom and a lack of structured activities during the holidays. This aspect adds to the challenges families face as they try to balance the costs and demands of keeping children engaged over an extended period.

The findings highlight the broader impact of school breaks on family spending patterns and daily routines, underscoring the need for potential support measures or strategies to help parents manage increased household costs and keep children occupied during these intervals.
