The Malaysian Parliament has officially extended its condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family following the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali. The message was delivered by Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor at the start of the parliamentary session on Tuesday.
Datuk Ramli expressed sympathy on behalf of the entire Parliament, acknowledging Dr Mahathir’s service both as a former prime minister and as a member of the House. “I would like to convey, on behalf of the Malaysian Parliament, condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister and former member of the House, and his family over the passing of his beloved wife,” he said.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, who was 100 years old, passed away on Sept. 28 at approximately 9:20 a.m. at the National Heart Institute. Following her death, she was honoured with a state funeral and was laid to rest at Makam Pahlawan in Presint 20, Putrajaya later that same day. Dr Mahathir, along with their children and other family members, attended the burial.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was widely respected for her contributions during Dr Mahathir’s tenure as Malaysia’s prime minister and for her own work in public health and social welfare. The parliamentary tribute underscores the nation’s recognition of her role alongside one of Malaysia’s most prominent political figures.
