A man has been charged with murder after a London Underground worker died following an altercation at Ilford station in east London. According to court proceedings at Inner London Crown Court, Ayodele Jamgbadi, 29, allegedly delivered a single punch to Jorge Ortega, 61, which left the Tube worker unconscious. Ortega later died from his injuries two days after the incident.
The court heard that Jamgbadi was seen on CCTV footage kicking an advertisement frame at the station after missing his train. Jorge Ortega, together with two other Transport for London employees, attempted to intervene and calm Jamgbadi. During this intervention, Jamgbadi reportedly struck Ortega in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
Jamgbadi, who resides in Ilford, was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm. However, the charge was later elevated to murder as the victim succumbed to his injuries. Judge Benedict Kelleher informed the jury that Jamgbadi was currently unfit to enter a formal plea. The trial is ongoing as the court continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
