FOXBOROUGH — The New England Patriots are contending with a growing number of injuries that are impacting key positions, particularly at wide receiver and along the offensive line, as they approach Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Head coach Mike Vrabel and his staff have been managing the team’s depleted depth chart by adjusting personnel and shifting players to cover gaps created by sidelined starters. While the Patriots did not place any additional players on injured reserve as of Tuesday, they remain without some critical offensive contributors.

Wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins are both sidelined. Doubs, who was put on injured reserve Monday following a shoulder injury sustained on a 42-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Drake Maye during Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, is expected to miss at least four games. Doubs leads the team in receiving yards (261) and touchdown catches (three). Vrabel declined to provide a specific timeline for his return but acknowledged Doubs had been building momentum before the injury.

“I think Romeo was continuing to build confidence, and his touchdown was a huge play in the football game,” Vrabel said. “We’ll have to figure things out without him here for a little while.”

On the offensive line, New England is down two key guards. Ben Brown and Alijah Vera-Tucker are “probably not” expected to play this week due to injuries, which will likely result in Walter Rouse and Matt Pryor seeing increased playing time. Both stepped in during the Jets game and contributed, including on a crucial late drive.

Vrabel also indicated that right tackle Morgan Moses, who left the Jets game with a foot injury and was seen wearing a walking boot afterward, might be available against the Bears. If he cannot play, rookie first-round pick Caleb Lomu could see more time. Lomu is expected to be versatile, with reps at multiple positions, including guard during training camp, and will need to be ready to fill in as necessary.

Left tackle Will Campbell highlighted the team’s preparedness approach, emphasizing that players must be ready to start at any position when called upon, a principle the coaching staff continues to reinforce amid the injuries.

Practice on Tuesday saw three players not participating: Vera-Tucker (hamstring), Brown (knee), and defensive tackle Joshua Farmer (personal reasons). Five others were limited in practice, including Moses (foot), wide receiver A.J. Brown (ankle), and cornerbacks Channing Canada (hamstring), Carlton Davis (neck), and Karon Prunty (hamstring).

Defensive tackle Milton Williams summed up the team’s mindset amid the challenges, stating that while injuries are unfortunate, the team remains focused on taking advantage of opportunities and moving forward. The Patriots aim to secure their fourth consecutive victory on Thursday despite the setbacks.

“We obviously don’t want guys to get hurt, but in this business, you’ve got to take advantage of your opportunities and go from there,” Williams said. “Hopefully we get some of those guys back and continue to strengthen our team, but nobody’s going to feel sorry for us.”
