The story of Paul O’Grady’s iconic drag alter ego, Lily Savage, is set to come to life in a new stage play starring Danny Beard. Beard, known for appearances on Britain’s Got Talent and RuPaul’s Drag Race, will take on the role of Lily Savage, a character created and popularized by the late comedian and television presenter Paul O’Grady.

The play is written by Jonathan Harvey, the playwright and screenwriter behind the 1990s sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme. The project received O’Grady’s approval during its early development before his passing. O’Grady expressed his enthusiasm for the endeavor, stating that he was pleased Harvey agreed to pen the script.

Harvey described the production as a tribute to O’Grady’s legacy, aiming to capture the humor and warmth that defined the original character. He said the play will offer audiences an entertaining experience while honoring the achievements of both Lily Savage and her creator.

The show is scheduled to premiere in February at Curve Leicester, with plans to transfer to London’s West End following its initial run. This new stage adaptation marks a significant return of Lily Savage to the theater scene, promising to celebrate the enduring influence of Paul O’Grady’s celebrated persona.
