Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Yountville, California, on Friday, authorities said. The collision caused significant damage to a legally parked vehicle, but no injuries were reported.

According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, Pelosi was driving his brown convertible when he struck a parked car on the side of the road. He briefly stopped but then left the scene. A witness who saw the incident immediately called 911. Deputies later located Pelosi about a quarter of a mile away with visible damage to the front of his vehicle. Pelosi acknowledged to officers that he believed he had struck something, though he was uncertain about the timing or cause of the damage.

Officials confirmed that Pelosi, 86, had no alcohol in his system at the time of the incident and referred him to the Department of Motor Vehicles for an evaluation, a routine procedure for older drivers. Pelosi was not arrested. Given that no injuries occurred, the sheriff’s office recommended misdemeanor charges for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

A spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi did not respond to a request for comment.

This is not Pelosi’s first legal matter related to driving. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges in Napa County. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation but served only two days in custody due to good conduct credits, with the remaining days fulfilled through a courthouse work program. As part of his probation, Pelosi was required to complete a three-month drinking driver education class and install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle, which prevents the car from starting without a breath test to confirm sobriety. He was also ordered to pay approximately $5,000 in victim restitution covering medical bills and lost wages, along with nearly $2,000 in fines.

That same year, Pelosi was the victim of a severe assault at the couple’s San Francisco residence, where he was struck with a hammer.
