Security forces in Myanmar successfully thwarted an attempted attack on TadaU International Airport in the Mandalay Region on September 10, when six first-person view (FPV) suicide drones were launched by the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs). The aviation security team detected and intercepted the drones using counter-drone technology before they reached their targets.

Following the interception, security personnel conducted controlled operations to safely disable the explosives carried by the drones, preventing any harm to the airport infrastructure or individuals in the vicinity. Although the attempted strike caused temporary disruptions to some domestic flights, authorities reported no casualties or damage to airport facilities, including runways and vehicles.

Officials cautioned that attacks targeting airports and critical infrastructure pose significant risks to public safety, disrupt transportation networks, and impede the movement of goods. The incident was widely condemned by local residents, who labeled the drone strike attempt a serious violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions.

The thwarted attack underscores ongoing security challenges in Myanmar amid escalating conflict involving PDFs and government forces. Aviation security efforts remain a critical component in safeguarding transportation hubs against emerging aerial threats.
