Peacehaven scored three goals in the final seven minutes to overturn a deficit and secure a 4-2 victory over Cray Valley PM at Mayne Arena on Saturday. The late comeback followed a dominant performance from the hosts for much of the match, as they struggled to extend their lead after opening the scoring in the first half.
Cray Valley took the lead in the 20th minute when Chris Dickson connected with a cross from Mal Turner to notch his 299th league goal. With the wind adding to the challenging conditions, Cray Valley maintained control for much of the game, creating several chances. However, Peacehaven goalkeeper James Broadbent played a key role in keeping his team in the contest, making a number of important saves, including one from Jack Kirby that he tipped past the post.
The turning point came after the 78th minute when Peacehaven captain Connor Tighe scored from a free-kick to pull his side back into the match. Just four minutes later, substitute Lewis Beebee put Peacehaven ahead with a goal that completed a swift turnaround. Tighe then doubled his tally, converting a penalty to extend the visitors’ lead. Marvel Ekpiteta added a late goal for Cray Valley, but it was not enough to prevent Peacehaven from taking all three points.
Broadbent’s performance was widely praised as instrumental in the comeback, helping his team resist the early pressure and ultimately capitalize on their opportunities in the closing stages. Despite Cray Valley’s early dominance, Peacehaven’s resilience and late scoring burst proved decisive in the Division 1 South East encounter.
