Peacehaven & Telscombe secured a place in the second qualifying round of the competition for only the second time after coming from behind to defeat Isthmian League South East rivals Merstham.
Merstham took an early lead just three minutes into the match when Louie Theophanous converted a low cross at the back post, beating Peacehaven & Telscombe goalkeeper James Broadbent. The visitors maintained their advantage until the 15th minute when Callum Edwards delivered a cross that caused confusion in the Merstham defense, allowing Connor Tighe to capitalize and level the score.
The Sussex side completed their comeback in the 70th minute. Following a short free kick, Edwards advanced with the ball before unleashing a low shot that beat Merstham goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey and found the bottom corner of the net. Despite Merstham’s efforts to respond late in the match, Broadbent remained alert to preserve Peacehaven & Telscombe’s lead and secure the victory.
This win marks a significant milestone for Peacehaven & Telscombe, who will now prepare for the next stage of the competition.
