Wigan Warriors head coach Matty Peet is hopeful that captain Liam Farrell will be able to return to the field before the end of the season. Farrell, 36, has been sidelined since June with a shoulder injury, and the team is expecting scan results this week to determine his fitness.

The six-time Super League champion has announced that he will retire at the conclusion of the current season. Wigan are set to finish their regular campaign at home against Catalan Dragons on Friday, before entering the play-offs.

Peet expressed his desire for Farrell to have the opportunity to conclude his career on his own terms, describing it as a privilege to work alongside the veteran player. Farrell made his debut for Wigan in 2010 and has since appeared in over 400 games for the club.

“It’s just been a privilege to work with him and to watch him and his career develop,” Peet said, emphasizing the significance of Farrell’s contribution to the team over the years.
