Approximately 600 delegates are expected to attend the Penang Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) state-level annual convention scheduled for tomorrow at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Penang branch hall. The event, which will last about two hours starting at 2 p.m., will focus on discussions regarding the party’s future direction and issues related to the Penang MCA.
Penang MCA secretary Yeoh Chin Kah announced the details during a press conference held at the Penang MCA headquarters in Jalan Transfer. He stated that MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will deliver the opening address online, as he is occupied with preparations for the upcoming Melaka state election. This year’s format aligns with a nationwide approach, with all state MCA conventions taking place simultaneously online to enable the president to engage with members across the country.
The convention will also include a modest Malaysia Day celebration, featuring a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion. Yeoh noted that Penang MCA currently comprises 13 divisions and emphasized that the annual state convention serves as a platform for members to exchange views and reinforce unity within the party.
Attendees will gather for lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. ahead of the convention, and Yeoh reminded participants to wear appropriate party attire and to make necessary preparations for the event.
Several party officials were present at the press briefing, including Penang MCA election preparation and scrutiny committee vice-chairman Chan Wooi Jin, state MCA Chinese associations liaison chief Khoo Soon Hin, state MCA vice-youth chief Teh Li Ren, state MCA vice-secretary Quah Lean Huat, state MCA deputy publicity bureau chief Ong Theng Soon, and Tanjong MCA deputy chairman Ooi Teik Liang.
