Zeller cited Stanley Kubrick’s *Eyes Wide Shut*—which featured then-married stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman—as a key influence. He described the earlier film’s ambiguous narrative and blending of fiction and reality as a central inspiration. “I loved *Eyes Wide Shut*,” Zeller said, highlighting his interest in “this ambivalent proposition presented to the audience, where you’re not quite sure what you’re being invited to watch. Is it fiction? Is it another version of fiction? Where is the line between reality and fiction? That permeability… seemed to me a truly fascinating project.”

Both Cruz and Bardem, partners in real life for more than three decades, portrayed the fictional couple with notable tension. When asked if they ever disagreed about working together, Bardem responded simply, “No, no, never.” Cruz countered with a laugh, “I know you for more than 30 years! Imagine if we had never had an argument,” highlighting the natural complexities of long-term collaboration on and off screen.
