Tommy Novak scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. Novak also contributed an assist in the tightly contested National Hockey League matchup.
The game-winning goal came early in overtime when Evgeni Malkin set up Novak with a precise pass on a 2-on-1 break. Malkin, who finished the night with one goal and two assists, found Novak at the bottom of the right circle, where Novak delivered a wrist shot past Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes at 1:33 of overtime.
Pittsburgh built a substantial 5-1 lead during the game, but the Canadiens staged a significant comeback, narrowing the gap before ultimately falling short. Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang each recorded two assists, while Ben Kindel, Declan Carlile, and Samuel Girard also contributed goals for the Penguins. Arturs Silovs provided a strong effort in goal, making 20 saves to secure the victory.
Sidney Crosby added an assist, marking the 1,109th assist of his NHL career and tying him with Joe Thornton for seventh place on the league’s all-time assists leaderboard. The Penguins’ ability to hold off Montreal’s rally and secure the overtime win underscored their resilience in a high-scoring and closely contested game.
