A 74-year-old man has admitted to raping a woman who was subject to prolonged abuse by her husband over more than two decades. Graham Brougham, from Northwich, Cheshire, pleaded guilty in September 2024 to a charge of rape involving the same woman. He appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court and was granted bail pending sentencing, with Judge Maurice Greene indicating that a custodial sentence of significant length was expected.

Brougham is one of 13 men charged with sexual offences against the woman, whose identity is protected to maintain her anonymity. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2015 and November 2025. While Brougham admitted to the charge, ten other defendants deny all allegations.

Two other men connected to the case have previously pleaded guilty. Sean Peers, 38, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, admitted to a single count of assault by penetration. Keith Fotheringham, 59, from Dundee, also pleaded guilty to sexual offences related to the woman.

The most serious allegations are against the woman's husband, a man in his sixties from Stockport. He has admitted to 62 offences, including rape, sexual assault, administering a substance with intent, and sharing intimate images of the victim without her consent. He remains in custody.

The ten defendants who deny the charges are Robert Stewart, 70, from Stockport; Jonathan Kirk, 43, also from the Stockport area; Karl Lindsay, 56, from Taunton, Somerset, a former chief executive of Taunton Town FC; Daniel Rayner, 42, from Whitstable, Kent; David Graves, 60, from Derbyshire; Philip Wild, 59, from Stockport; Mohammed Sabir, 28, from the Stockport area; Jordan Wallace, 31, from Manchester; Alan Keelan, 42, of Greater Manchester; and Richard Townsend, 38, also from Greater Manchester.

The upcoming trial is set to examine the allegations involving multiple men and the extended abuse suffered by the victim. The case highlights complex issues surrounding long-term domestic abuse and related offences involving numerous individuals over several years.
