A 68-year-old man is scheduled to stand trial in January 2028 for the murder of a woman in Irvine in 1994. Fraser Kilpatrick has been charged in connection with the death of 31-year-old Shona Stevens, who was attacked on November 10, 1994, in Bourtreehill Park. Prosecutors allege that Kilpatrick assaulted Stevens by repeatedly striking her on the head with a hammer or a similar instrument. The attack caused her to collapse and sustain severe injuries. She subsequently died three days later at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
In addition to the murder charge, Kilpatrick faces 15 other accusations, including rape and assault, involving multiple adult and child victims. At a recent hearing, Donald Findlay KC, representing Kilpatrick, entered a plea of not guilty to all charges on behalf of his client. The trial is set to begin over three decades after the alleged offences, reflecting a lengthy investigative and legal process.
