The Pentagon has begun releasing a series of government files related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs), marking a renewed effort to provide public transparency on what are often referred to as “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP). The initiative, announced on Friday, involves coordination among multiple agencies including the White House, the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Energy, NASA, and the FBI.

The release comes after a directive from former President Donald Trump, who has emphasized transparency on this issue. According to the Pentagon’s announcement posted on the social media platform X, while previous administrations sought to discredit or discourage public interest in UFO-related information, the current approach is aimed at allowing Americans to access the material and draw their own conclusions.

The files are being made available on a new federal government website and are being issued on a rolling basis. The initial batch includes investigative records and eyewitness accounts related to various UFO sightings. The Pentagon has noted that additional documents will continue to be declassified and published in the coming months.

Congress mandated the release of these documents in 2022 after members of the military reported multiple encounters with unexplained aircraft. That same year, Congress established an office dedicated to the declassification of UFO-related information. In 2024, this office released a report documenting hundreds of new incidents involving UAP, but it did not find evidence that the U.S. government had confirmed any sightings as foreign or extraterrestrial technology.

Despite efforts toward transparency, some members of Congress, primarily Republicans, have expressed concern that the Pentagon is withholding material. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, in a letter sent in March, demanded the release of 46 video recordings of UAP incidents identified by whistleblowers.

Experts have cautioned the public to interpret the declassified documents carefully. They warn that videos and reports of UAP often suffer from misinterpretations and can be mistakenly linked to advanced military technology or other explainable phenomena.

This release represents one of the most comprehensive attempts by the U.S. government to address public curiosity and speculation about UFOs while maintaining a focus on transparency and ongoing investigation. The Pentagon, along with its partner agencies, continues to encourage the public and analysts to review the material critically as further files become available.
