More than 55,000 visitors attended the two-day Kuala Perlis International Water Festival held at Kampung Wai, Kuala Perlis, resulting in a notable boost to the local economy. Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah highlighted the positive impact on various sectors, including eateries, homestays, hotels, and guesthouses, many of which reported full occupancy during the event.

Speaking at the festival’s conclusion, Abu Bakar Hamzah described the turnout as a significant achievement. He emphasized how the influx of visitors had benefited local businesses, contributing to the overall economic uplift of the area.

The festival featured participation from 19 villages competing in several activities, notably a village beautification contest, which showcased community involvement and spirit. Abu Bakar Hamzah noted that the competition was less about winning and more about fostering unity among the local communities.

Plans are already underway to continue the festival next year, with organizers aiming to introduce several enhancements and place greater emphasis on the village beautification competition, according to the Menteri Besar. The initiative underscores ongoing efforts to promote community engagement and local development through cultural and tourism events in Perlis.
