Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce appear to be preparing for a large-scale wedding event in New York City over the Independence Day weekend, with plans centering around Madison Square Garden (MSG). A permit request filed by event company Winick Productions with the city’s Street Activity Permit Office indicates a planned street closure from July 2 through midday July 4 near MSG, along with the setup of a tent or canopy outside the arena. The permit specifies an expected attendance of between 500 and 999 people. The company also requested similar arrangements for July 10.

The permit filing has intensified speculation that Swift and Kelce, both 36, are planning to hold their wedding ceremony or reception at MSG or its immediate vicinity. Although representatives for Swift, Kelce, and Winick Productions have not commented publicly, reports have noted several Kansas City Chiefs teammates of Kelce have booked accommodations at the nearby Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square for the weekend, suggesting involvement of close associates.

Earlier reports indicated the couple had initially considered hosting their wedding at Ocean House in Rhode Island, near Swift’s vacation home, with an intimate ceremony planned for mid-June. However, the couple reportedly altered their plans following media leaks. Despite no marriage license having been filed in Rhode Island, a sizable white tent was observed near Ocean House during the past weekend, suggesting some related festivities took place there.

Madison Square Garden, with a seating capacity of approximately 20,000, reportedly has no scheduled events from June 29 to July 6, allowing for flexibility in hosting a private celebration. Celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed, based in Los Angeles, is said to have been involved in organizing the event for several months. The guest list reportedly includes a number of high-profile figures, such as Zoë Kravitz, Suki Waterhouse, Karlie Kloss, Ed Sheeran, the Haim sisters, Gigi Hadid, and Selena Gomez.

New York City Mayor Mamdani has publicly acknowledged the forthcoming event, noting the city’s capacity to manage large gatherings and referencing “Taylor Swift’s wedding” during a recent press conference. He did not indicate plans to attend, expressing well wishes from his home.

Swift and Kelce, who became engaged in August 2025, have both performed and appeared at Madison Square Garden multiple times in the past. The NFL player’s connection with his Kansas City Chiefs teammates and the couple’s preference for a high-profile venue like MSG highlight the scale and significance of the forthcoming nuptials. However, details regarding whether the event will include both the ceremony and reception at the arena, or only one component, have not been confirmed.
