Trainer Peter Moody is set to field Sheza Alibi in the Golden Eagle race at Royal Randwick on Saturday, with efforts focused on supporting the Royce Simmons Foundation, an organization dedicated to dementia research. Moody, a Queensland-based trainer, is known for his success across state lines and is putting aside traditional rivalries as he backs the Victorian mare in the New South Wales event.
Sheza Alibi, considered a leading contender, currently holds odds of $1.80 to claim the $5.25 million Golden Eagle prize. The six-furlong race draws some of the country’s top sprinters, with Moody expressing confidence in the mare’s determination. Jockey Luke Nolen is scheduled to ride Sheza Alibi in the race.
“If our girl can show half the courage of Royce in the Golden Eagle, it will take her a long way to victory,” Moody remarked, highlighting the connection to Simmons, a former rugby league player who is now a patron of the foundation.
The Royce Simmons Foundation has been involved in ongoing efforts to raise awareness and fund research into dementia, a cause that has resonated with Moody and his team. By competing in the Golden Eagle, Moody aims to bring additional attention and support to the foundation’s work while pursuing a significant milestone in Australian horse racing.
The Golden Eagle, held annually at Royal Randwick, is one of the country’s richest races and attracts a strong field of contenders. Moody’s campaign with Sheza Alibi not only emphasizes the sporting challenge but also underscores a commitment to charitable causes beyond the track.
