Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing the United States of complicity and criticizing Western governments for what he described as hypocritical double standards on human rights. Speaking at a ceremony marking World Post Day on Monday, Pezeshkian denounced the international community’s silence in the face of what he called genocide in Gaza, asserting that Western countries continue to supply Israel with weapons and other resources despite professing a commitment to human rights.
Pezeshkian characterized the global response as shameful, highlighting the gap between rhetoric and action from governments that portray themselves as defenders of humanity. He accused these countries of selectively applying human rights standards, noting that Western governments remain largely silent on Palestinian casualties while frequently criticizing Iran when it suits their political agenda.
The Iranian president also broadened his critique to include what he termed “US-Israeli expansionist ambitions” in the region. He claimed that these powers are pursuing territorial control and exploiting the region’s oil and resources, actions carried out with scant opposition from the global community. Pezeshkian suggested that powerful actors are using the language of democracy and human rights to mask what he described as mechanisms of subjugation and plunder.
In his remarks, Pezeshkian questioned the moral credibility of countries producing and supplying weapons used in conflicts that devastate civilian populations. He called attention to the contradiction between those nations’ self-presentation as champions of humanity and the scientific and cultural progress they claim to represent, contrasting this with the widespread destruction seen in Gaza and other parts of the Middle East.
Pezeshkian also paid tribute to those killed in the conflict and extended condolences to their families. He condemned the aggressors for targeting innocent people while continuing to invoke humanitarian principles in international forums such as the United Nations.
Further addressing regional tensions, Pezeshkian spoke about ongoing attempts to undermine Iran and force the Islamic Republic into submission. He asserted that these efforts have failed and emphasized that neither war nor the loss of prominent leaders has weakened the resolve of the Iranian nation.
