PGA Tour Commissioner Brian Rolapp affirmed on September 15 that the organization has no current plans to establish a new pathway for LIV Golf players to rejoin the PGA Tour following recent developments surrounding LIV Golf’s bankruptcy proceedings.

During a virtual media conference, Rolapp addressed questions about whether LIV players such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith might benefit from a returning-member program similar to the one extended earlier this year, which was accepted by Brooks Koepka. He emphasized the PGA Tour’s core principles, stressing that membership and playing opportunities are based on merit, adherence to established rules, and accountability—elements fundamental to maintaining fairness and the integrity of the sport.

“There are really three things when it comes to anyone who wants to compete on the PGA Tour,” Rolapp said. He outlined these as the meritocratic foundation of the Tour, the enforcement of rules designed to ensure competitive balance, and the necessity of discipline and accountability for the league’s coherence and credibility. He made clear that, at present, the PGA Tour is not considering reinstating a returning-member program like the one implemented earlier this year.

Rolapp noted that recent decisions made by the PGA Tour’s board are designed to support a longer-term vision aimed at building “the optimal competitive model for the future,” rather than focusing on any individual group of players or specific situations like LIV Golf. These changes are leading to a new competitive structure to be introduced in 2028, including a two-tiered system consisting of a Championship series and a Challenger series.

While the details of how players will access the new tour format have not been finalized, Rolapp confirmed expectations that top finishers on the DP World Tour could earn playing privileges on the PGA Tour. This pathway—similar to the route taken by Patrick Reed—could provide LIV players with a merit-based opportunity to return. The DP World Tour and the PGA Tour are currently negotiating an extension of their Strategic Alliance, and how the DP World Tour integrates into the future tour model remains under discussion.

Asked explicitly about the return of LIV players, Rolapp reiterated that the focus remains on delivering the best competitive product rather than accommodating any particular group. The PGA Tour’s Future Competitions Committee is considering how to best structure the tour, and no decisions have been made regarding LIV players’ reintegration.

Overall, the PGA Tour appears unlikely to offer special concessions to LIV players at this time, underscoring a commitment to its principles of meritocracy and competitive integrity amid the evolving landscape of professional golf.
