The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) in Qatar marked the International Day of Older Persons on October 1 with a series of awareness activities and events held across its health centres nationwide. The initiative, conducted under the theme “Your Wisdom Gives Us Strength; Your Expertise Guides Us as We Shape the Future Together,” aimed to highlight the healthcare needs of older adults and promote their rights to safe and comprehensive medical care.
As part of the celebrations, PHCC provided home healthcare services to patients, their families, and caregivers through daily visits, coupled with the distribution of symbolic gifts. The awareness campaign focused on educating the public about age-related health conditions, prevention strategies, and the importance of coordinated care for this demographic. The events also served to introduce service providers dedicated to older persons, emphasizing the role of collaboration among various healthcare stakeholders.
PHCC operates home healthcare services from 25 health centres distributed throughout Qatar. These services are accessible to eligible Qatari nationals and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens aged 50 and above, based on established eligibility criteria. The home healthcare program delivers integrated care through a multidisciplinary team delivering medical assessments, treatment planning, medication reviews, necessary diagnostic tests, and nursing care. The nursing component encompasses vital signs monitoring, wound management, blood sample collection, vaccinations, and administration of prescribed medicines. Additionally, physiotherapy and clinical nutrition services are provided according to individual patient needs.
Health education remains a key focus of the Home Healthcare Services Section, which participates in annual health campaigns and disseminates informational materials to patients and families. Information boards explaining the service’s scope, eligibility, and application procedures are displayed at health centres to facilitate community outreach.
Concluding the activities, PHCC reiterated its dedication to enhancing home healthcare services by maintaining rigorous quality monitoring and beneficiary satisfaction assessments. The organization underscored its commitment to strengthening partnerships with relevant institutions and stakeholders across Qatar to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care. These efforts aim to ensure that older persons receive appropriate healthcare that maintains their dignity, promotes their well-being, and improves their overall quality of life.
