Doha’s Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has expanded its weekend medical service offerings by incorporating Al Waab Health Centre into its network of facilities providing care beyond standard hours. This initiative, effective from Friday, raises the number of health centres open on weekends to 22 across Qatar. These centres are strategically distributed across the country, ranging from Al Khor in the north to Al Wakra in the south, and covering key residential areas such as West Bay, Al Sadd, Madinat Khalifa, and Gharrafat Al Rayyan.

The expansion forms part of PHCC’s broader strategy to enhance accessibility to primary health care and reduce reliance on hospital emergency departments, which frequently receive patients seeking treatment for conditions suitable for primary care settings. By extending weekend services, PHCC aims to bring medical care closer to the population, improving convenience and potentially alleviating pressure on hospital-based emergency units.

In addition to weekend operations, PHCC maintains a separate urgent care network consisting of 15 health centres that offer 24-hour services for adults. These facilities focus on non-life-threatening cases that require timely medical attention, providing an alternative to hospital emergency rooms for appropriate cases. This dual approach underscores PHCC’s commitment to streamlining healthcare delivery across Qatar by balancing accessibility with efficient use of resources.
