The Wellness Section at the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) in Qatar, in collaboration with the College of Medicine at Qatar University (QU), recently organised a health awareness event aimed at promoting prevention and early detection of health risk factors. The initiative also sought to encourage students and employees to adopt healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

The event, part of the Wellness Section’s strategy under the Preventive Health Department at PHCC, featured a combination of educational activities and health screenings designed to support disease prevention and improve overall well-being. Medical professionals and students from QU’s College of Medicine participated in the initiative, which was held at PHCC facilities.

Attendees were able to visit six interactive health stations where various measurements and assessments were conducted. These included checks of vital signs, body mass index (BMI), carbon monoxide levels, and blood glucose. Results from these screenings were recorded in individual health passports, allowing participants to track their health indicators and identify areas for improvement.

The carbon monoxide measurement station also offered smoking cessation counselling, providing guidance on the health risks of smoking and information on available methods to quit. Another station measured handgrip strength, used as a functional indicator related to physical fitness and general health. In addition to these group stations, one-on-one consultations with a community medicine physician were available, offering personalised advice on nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle habits.

The organisers emphasised that the event supported a culture of prevention by combining screening with awareness and individualized health consultations in a practical and interactive format. By increasing knowledge of personal health metrics, the event aimed to empower participants to take proactive steps toward maintaining healthier lifestyles and preventing disease.

Overall, the collaboration between PHCC and QU’s College of Medicine reflects ongoing efforts in Qatar to strengthen public health through early detection and sustained education on healthy behaviors among the population.
