Kyle Schwarber extended his major league home run lead as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 8-2 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Schwarber launched his 25th homer of the season in the fourth inning off Miami starter Tyler Phillips, marking the ninth time in his career—and all five seasons with the Phillies—that he has reached at least 25 home runs in a single campaign.
Starting pitchers Jesús Luzardo and Tyler Phillips, both facing their former teams, had contrasting performances. Luzardo, now with the Phillies, delivered seven strong innings, surrendering only two runs on five hits while striking out nine. He kept Miami hitless until the fifth inning and improved his record to 6-4 with the outing. Phillips, starting for Miami, struggled in his return to Philadelphia, allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks over four innings. All three Phillies home runs came off Phillips, who also gave up a two-run triple to Bryson Stott.
In addition to Schwarber’s homer, Brandon Marsh and Alec Bohm contributed solo home runs for Philadelphia. The Phillies’ offense capitalized early and maintained control throughout the contest.
Miami’s offense was limited but saw some production from Esteury Ruiz, who hit a two-run homer off Luzardo in the seventh inning. Despite Ruiz’s effort, the Marlins were unable to overcome Philadelphia’s lead. The loss marked the first time the Marlins have dropped consecutive games in June.
With this win, the Phillies reinforced their offensive momentum, while Luzardo’s strong start bolstered the team’s pitching rotation. The Marlins, meanwhile, face ongoing challenges as they try to regain stability in the early stages of the season.
