A 23-year-old pilot is being mourned by family and community members following a light aircraft crash off the coast of Australia's Northern Territory. The aircraft went down near Isel Woodah, approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Alyangula, with the incident first reported on Tuesday at around 11:40 a.m. by a boater who witnessed the plane crashing into the water.

Authorities have been conducting search operations for the wreckage for four days but have yet to recover the pilot’s body. Officials believe the lone pilot onboard, identified as Bob Bramley, did not survive the crash.

Bramley’s family described him as a “beacon of hope” and expressed profound grief over the loss. “We cannot comprehend this great loss in our lives,” they said in a statement. They also highlighted his commitment to a cause that distinguished him from a young age.

At 16, Bramley began advocating for suicide prevention, launching a mission called “Surviving Turbulence” to raise awareness about youth suicide. He became the youngest pilot to complete a solo circumnavigation of Australia by plane, covering around 15,000 kilometers in 2019. This journey helped raise over $20,000 for the mental health organization Beyond Blue.

Bramley is remembered not only for his aviation accomplishments but also for his courage and dedication to supporting mental health initiatives. His family and those who knew him praised his spirit and the impact he made during his brief life. Search efforts remain ongoing as authorities work to locate and recover the aircraft and any remains.
