The Detroit Pistons secured a 116-94 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday, completing a dramatic comeback in the first-round NBA playoffs and advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Detroit overcame a 3-1 series deficit to win the best-of-seven matchup 4-3, marking the franchise’s first playoff series win since 2008.
Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 32 points and 12 assists, while Tobias Harris contributed 30 points and nine rebounds. The Pistons had erased a 24-point deficit in Game 6 on Saturday to force the decisive seventh game at home.
“It’s great,” Cunningham said following the triumph, noting the team’s momentum from a successful regular season and emphasizing the significance of overcoming long odds. Detroit was the 15th team in NBA history to win a series after trailing 3-1, joining the Philadelphia 76ers, who accomplished the same feat just one day earlier.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers advanced by defeating the Toronto Raptors 114-102 in a closely contested seven-game series. Cleveland secured the series 4-3, with the home team prevailing in each game.
With the Pistons holding the top seed in the Eastern Conference – secured through the third-best record league-wide – their playoff resurgence has reignited expectations heading into the next round. The Cavaliers await as they aim to capitalize on their home-court advantage in the upcoming semifinal series.
