Brands Hatch is set to host the London E-Prix beginning in 2027, marking the return of single-seater world championship racing to the circuit for the first time in over four decades. The Kent-based venue, famously known as the former home of the British Grand Prix, last held a Formula 1 race in 1986 when Nigel Mansell claimed victory, before the event transitioned to Silverstone.

This move ends Formula E's tenure at the London E-Prix’s previous location at the ExCeL Centre in the Docklands, which featured a unique half-indoor, half-outdoor street circuit. The switch comes as the latest generation of Formula E cars, known as the Gen4 models, are capable of accelerating at speeds nearing those of Formula 1 vehicles, necessitating a larger and more traditional racing venue to accommodate their performance.

Organizers chose Brands Hatch over Silverstone for its proximity to London, aiming to maintain the event’s strong connection to the capital while providing a classic motorsport environment. The 2027 race weekend will feature a double-header format over the May 29-30 bank holiday, offering two rounds of action for the all-electric single-seater championship.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, highlighted the commitment to establishing a long-term presence at Brands Hatch. He emphasized the intention not only to secure the circuit as a consistent fixture on the calendar but also to elevate the event into a flagship occasion for the venue, which has lacked a major motorsport highlight in recent years.

In addition to this development, the Formula E calendar will see the inclusion of Zandvoort in the Netherlands following Formula 1’s departure after this year’s Dutch Grand Prix. The expansion reinforces Formula E’s evolving global footprint amid shifting dynamics within top-tier single-seater racing series.
