Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty in Doha on Saturday to discuss bilateral relations and regional security concerns. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.

The officials reviewed recent developments in the region, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as means to de-escalate conflicts and enhance stability. Central to their discussion was the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran. Both leaders underscored the need for all parties involved to adhere to the agreements outlined in the MoU, particularly regarding the assurance of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime passage critical to regional and global trade.

Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s commitment to supporting initiatives that aim to prevent further escalation and promote a lasting peace settlement in the region. The meeting highlighted the two countries’ shared interest in maintaining security and preserving diplomatic gains already achieved.

The discussions reflect broader regional efforts by Gulf and Arab states to coordinate diplomatic strategies to manage complex geopolitical challenges, particularly those involving Iran and its relations with the United States. While the MoU represents a framework for reducing hostilities and promoting stability, the practical implementation and mutual compliance remain key concerns for regional actors.
