KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia will not permit its territory to be used as a transit point for any cargo that supports Israel’s military operations, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated. The reaffirmation of Malaysia’s position came amid heightened concerns over the use of international routes for shipments related to military activities.

“Malaysia’s stance is clear and unequivocal,” Anwar said in a post on the social media platform X. “We will not allow our country to be used as a conduit for any shipment that supports or contributes to Israel’s military capabilities and its actions against Palestinians and other innocent lives.” He emphasized that any suspicious cargo arriving in Malaysia would face thorough inspection and investigation under national law, and that violations would prompt decisive measures.

Anwar made the remarks following the conclusion of a two-day official visit to the Maldives. During a luncheon hosted by Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in the capital, Malé, the Malaysian leader reflected on the warm ties between the two nations. He noted the significance of the president’s extended engagement throughout the visit, describing it as a testament to the deepening friendship, trust, and mutual respect between Malaysia and the Maldives.

Addressing the challenges faced by small nations on the global stage, Anwar stressed that size should not hinder a country’s influence or aspirations. “Small countries with a big heart are what the world needs now,” he said, drawing attention to the shared values between Malaysia and the Maldives. He urged countries of all sizes to demonstrate leadership through good governance, accountability, and principled action, rejecting the notion that power alone determines legitimacy in international relations.

Malaysia’s firm stance reflects its broader commitment to prevent the use of its territory in facilitating military aggression or actions targeting civilians, especially amid ongoing conflict involving Israel and Palestine. The government’s position underscores the country’s adherence to international law and its efforts to maintain neutrality while advocating for the protection of innocent lives.
