KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has credited the successful staging of the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix to the strong collaboration among various parties, including the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), and the event’s organising team.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Anwar acknowledged the efforts of a wide range of personnel, from bus drivers and security staff to volunteers, traders, and cleaning crews, emphasizing their essential role behind the scenes. He also extended his gratitude to international fans, particularly Malaysians, who attended the race and contributed to creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

Anwar expressed appreciation to the Government of Bahrain for entrusting Malaysia and the SIC with hosting the event, which he said had enhanced bilateral relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister highlighted how Malaysians’ hospitality and openness projected a positive image of the nation on the global stage.

“The spirit of goodwill was on full display, and I hope we will soon see a return of Formula 1 to Sepang,” Anwar said.

The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, held from October 2 to 4, marked Formula 1’s return to the Sepang International Circuit after a nine-year hiatus. The Malaysian track last hosted an F1 race in 2017 before being dropped from the calendar.

In the race, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen secured victory, while Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver and current championship leader Kimi Antonelli finished second. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, racing for Ferrari, completed the podium in third place.
