Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, engaged in separate telephone discussions with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran, focusing on diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran and to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
During a call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah al-Saud, the two officials reviewed existing bilateral cooperation and explored ways to enhance coordination. Both emphasized the importance of supporting mediation efforts designed to promote de-escalation and strengthen regional security and stability. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the need for all parties involved to respond constructively to ongoing mediation initiatives, which aim to address the underlying causes of the crisis through peaceful dialogue and to achieve a durable agreement that would deter future escalation.
In a separate conversation held the same day with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s commitment to backing efforts that prevent escalation and encourage a comprehensive resolution. The discussion also covered recent developments in Lebanon, underscoring the interconnected nature of regional security challenges. Qatar’s Prime Minister affirmed the goal of reaching an agreement that would contribute to lasting peace and stability across the broader region.
These exchanges reflect Qatar’s ongoing role as a mediator seeking to facilitate dialogue among key regional and international actors amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran. Both Saudi Arabia and Iran have significant stakes in the outcome, and Qatar’s diplomatic initiatives aim to create conditions for constructive engagement in the hope of resolving longstanding disputes peacefully.
