Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met on Tuesday with Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs HE Maria Malmer Stenergard during her visit to Qatar. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Qatar and Sweden, as well as regional security issues.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to ongoing mediation efforts between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Both officials emphasized the importance of supporting dialogue and negotiation to reduce tensions and promote stability in the Middle East.
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the necessity for all involved parties to respond constructively to the mediation initiatives in place. He underscored that positive engagement in these efforts is essential for addressing the underlying causes of the conflict through peaceful means. The aim, he said, is to reach a sustainable agreement that prevents further escalations and contributes to long-term regional security.
The meeting reflects Qatar's continued role as a mediator in regional and international conflicts, leveraging its diplomatic channels to facilitate communication and de-escalation between conflicting parties. The discussions with the Swedish foreign minister also signal a mutual interest in strengthening cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
