Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized his commitment to safeguarding the rights and security of all citizens regardless of their religious affiliation during a meeting on Monday. Speaking to Hindu community leaders from the Dhaka-17 constituency at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat, the prime minister underscored his responsibility to protect people as human beings, not on the basis of religion.
The gathering included representatives from eight temples within the constituency who extended an invitation to the prime minister to attend the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations. The Hindu leaders expressed appreciation for government initiatives aimed at their welfare since the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) assumed office. They specifically acknowledged the extension of the Puja holiday and the provision of financial assistance as positive steps.
In response, Tarique Rahman noted that the government has undertaken several measures in a relatively short period since coming into power and indicated ongoing efforts to address additional concerns raised by the community. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring inclusive security and equal rights for all citizens amid the diverse religious landscape of Bangladesh.
