Scotland national team head coach Sebastien Pocognoli has confirmed that goalkeeper Angus Gunn will remain the first-choice keeper despite criticism following the team’s recent 1-0 loss to Switzerland. Pocognoli made the announcement ahead of Scotland’s upcoming match against North Macedonia in Skopje.

Pocognoli, who has been in charge for just two games, emphasized the importance of allowing players time to adapt to his tactical approach. “The way that we play is different and more demanding, on the ball and off the ball,” he said, underscoring the need for stability in the squad during this transitional period.

He praised Gunn’s performances in training and camp, describing the goalkeeper as “quite stable and quite good” and reiterated his full support for him. “For me, there was no doubt,” Pocognoli stated. He also stressed that patience is required when evaluating players, particularly under new management.

“I have only had two games in charge and I will not start to rush with anyone,” Pocognoli added. “All of my players in this new process need good support.”

Gunn’s position has come under scrutiny from some fans and analysts following Scotland’s defeat in their opening match, prompting debate over whether a change was needed. However, Pocognoli’s comments indicate a preference for continuity as the team adapts to his system ahead of their next international fixtures.
