A nationwide police operation targeting organised immigration crime and illegal trade resulted in more than 300 arrests and the seizure of over £1 million in cash, authorities announced on Thursday. The crackdown took place over five days, from June 15 to June 20, and involved multiple law enforcement agencies working in coordination.
During the operation, 362 individuals were detained, including 57 migrants who had recently crossed the English Channel by boat to enter the United Kingdom. In addition to the arrests, police confiscated a range of illicit goods, including illegal tobacco products, vapes, and cigarettes estimated to have a street value exceeding £700,000. Authorities also seized 92 vehicles and 31 electric bicycles suspected of being used in criminal activity. Drug seizures valued at approximately £131,000 were part of the haul as well.
Detective Chief Constable Wendy Gunney, who leads the Organized Immigration Crime Domestic Taskforce, emphasised the collaborative nature of the effort. She stated that the operation demonstrates a unified response from law enforcement agencies aimed at dismantling organised crime networks involved in illegal trade and immigration offences. Gunney added that the activity signals a firm commitment to bringing offenders to justice and protecting communities across the country.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) oversaw the campaign, highlighting its success in disrupting criminal enterprises and safeguarding vulnerable migrants. This crackdown forms part of broader government efforts to address illegal immigration routes and the associated criminal industries that exploit migrants and communities alike.
Authorities have not disclosed details regarding ongoing investigations or potential prosecutions related to the arrests. However, the extensive seizures and arrests underline continued police focus on combating criminal activities linked to immigration and the illicit trade of goods within the UK.
