Los Angeles police fatally shot a man who was reportedly swinging a bat at vehicles near a freeway onramp Wednesday evening, authorities said. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard, where officers responded following reports that a man was threatening pedestrians and striking occupied cars.

When officers arrived, the individual had moved south along Normandie Avenue and was located at the underpass of the 10 Freeway. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers encountered the man armed with a bat and subsequently shot him. Police have not released further information regarding the circumstances that led to the use of lethal force.

Paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been disclosed. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the shooting. The bat used in the incident was taken into police custody as evidence.

An investigation into the events surrounding the shooting is currently underway.
