The Police Headquarters on Tuesday issued a directive to field-level police officials to identify and take stringent action against the leaders of drug networks and juvenile gangs. This directive emerged during the monthly crime review meeting for September 2026 held at Police Headquarters.

Additional Inspector General of Police (Crime and Operations) Md Saiedur Rahman emphasized the Bangladesh Police’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug-related offenses and juvenile gang activities. He urged officers to take firm measures against the “godfathers” orchestrating these criminal activities. Rahman also called on police personnel to enhance the force’s public image by demonstrating honesty, dedication, and professionalism in their work.

In addition to combating drug crimes and gang violence, Rahman instructed police to prioritize the recording and prompt investigation of robbery cases to ensure swift justice for victims. He highlighted the importance of closely monitoring rape investigations to increase conviction rates and underscored the need for improving the overall case disposal ratio.

The Additional IGP further advocated for effective and inclusive community policing efforts. He recommended involving respected individuals from local communities in beat policing initiatives to foster stronger relations between law enforcement and the public. Rahman also stressed the importance of treating members of the public humanely during police operations.

During the meeting, he extended thanks to field-level officers on behalf of Inspector General of Police (IGP) for their role in maintaining security and peace during the recent Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.

Key police officials, including metropolitan police commissioners, range deputy inspector generals (DIGs), and district superintendents of police, participated virtually, while DIG (Crime Management) Mohammad Abu Sufian and other relevant officers attended in person. The meeting reviewed the overall crime landscape of September 2026, including significant incidents recorded throughout the month.
