Queensland police are investigating potential gang connections following a fatal drive-by shooting outside a pub south of Brisbane that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman. Vana-Reese Schuster-Togitau, a resident of Jimboomba, was struck in the head and neck during the attack outside Fitzy’s Loganholme in Logan on Saturday night, where a boxing event was underway. She died on Thursday morning at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
In addition to Schuster-Togitau, three men aged 27, 37, and 38 were injured in the shooting. One of the men underwent surgery and is currently recovering, while the other two have since been discharged from hospital.
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin described the victim’s death as a deeply distressing event and extended his condolences to her family and friends, who have requested privacy during this difficult time. He emphasised that the police deployment includes around 80 officers actively working on the murder investigation and urged members of the community to come forward with any information regarding the perpetrators and their motives.
“We will not stop until these people are identified and taken into custody,” Det Insp Galpin said, highlighting the brutal nature of the incident involving a young woman out for a night with friends. He noted that those with knowledge of the crime should summon the courage to assist the investigation.
Authorities are maintaining an open inquiry into whether the attack involved gang members, their affiliates, or other organised criminal entities. Det Insp Galpin indicated that if evidence points towards organised crime, the investigation’s scope would be broadened accordingly.
The police are continuing their search for suspects responsible for the shooting as the community grapples with the tragedy.
