Police are investigating the unexplained death of a child at a nature reserve in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire. Emergency services were called to the scene early Monday morning following a report of a person in cardiac arrest. Despite the rapid response, including deployment of an air ambulance, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Staffordshire Police said they were alerted at 8:45 a.m. by the West Midlands Ambulance Service, which had been attending the cardiac arrest. Officers subsequently cordoned off an area around a fishing lake in the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve near Strawberry Lane as part of the ongoing investigation. Details regarding the child’s age and gender have not been released.

Roads around the nature reserve were closed for much of the day while police conducted their inquiries. Officers were expected to remain on site into the evening as they continue to gather evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
