The Metropolitan Police failed to locate a letter containing serious allegations against Thomas Markle, the father of the Duchess of Sussex, when it was first received in January 2019. The letter was subsequently passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but the original document was later reported missing by police. Authorities only realized the letter had been misplaced after new allegations surfaced in the Philippines.
Following this discovery, the police asked the Duchess, 45, if she had retained a copy of the letter. She confirmed that she had and provided it to the investigators upon request. Thomas Markle, 82, has denied the accusations and suggested that he may have been the victim of a setup. After undergoing a leg amputation, Markle left his residence in Cebu and returned to the United States.
The Metropolitan Police declined to comment on the matter.
