An off-duty South Wales Police officer has been barred from returning to the force following a car crash involving illegal drugs. Elinor Brooks-Griffiths, who resigned from the police service, was found guilty of gross misconduct by a disciplinary panel.
The incident occurred in January when Brooks-Griffiths lost control of a Mercedes vehicle containing two bags of cocaine. After the collision, she fled the scene. Subsequent legal proceedings saw her plead guilty to charges of drug possession and failing to stop after an accident in August.
The misconduct panel reviewed the case and concluded that Brooks-Griffiths’ actions amounted to gross misconduct, resulting in a formal prohibition from resuming any role within the police. The decision reflects concerns over the officer’s conduct both during and after the incident, including the presence of illegal substances in the vehicle and her failure to remain at the crash site.
Brooks-Griffiths had already left the South Wales Police by the time of the hearing. The ruling underscores the force’s stance on integrity and accountability, particularly regarding drug-related offences among its personnel.
