A police officer with 24 years of service was dismissed for gross misconduct after using a physical method to simulate keyboard activity while working from home. PC Robert Masson was found to have placed a weight on his keyboard to create the appearance that he was actively working during shifts, according to the findings presented at a misconduct hearing held at North Wales Police headquarters.
The behavior reportedly took place over an extended period, with Masson allegedly employing the tactic for up to ten hours during shifts between November 2023 and September 2024. The incident raised concerns about the integrity and professionalism expected of police officers, particularly in remote working arrangements.
Deputy Chief Constable Nigel Harrison emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust, stating that officers must perform their duties with the highest standards of professionalism at all times. The decision to terminate Masson’s employment underscores the force’s commitment to accountability and upholding ethical conduct within its ranks.
