Police are investigating the death of an infant at a motel in Adelaide, prompting a significant law enforcement presence at the scene on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Tollgate Motel in Glen Osmond shortly before 10:30 a.m., where officers secured a room with crime scene tape. Multiple police vehicles, including a forensics van, were reported by local residents, with some officers seen conducting investigative activities outside the motel throughout the day. The motel itself remained open and operational, with guests coming and going as usual.
One nearby resident noted an unusual number of police cars in the quiet cul-de-sac, describing the scene as unexpectedly intense for the area. Another local observed police at the motel from early morning but did not see any ambulances or hear disturbances.
South Australia Police confirmed the infant’s death is under investigation but declined to disclose further details, indicating that more time is needed to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Staff at the motel also declined to comment on the situation.
This event recalls a previous critical incident at the same location. In October 2017, a fatal police shooting occurred during a siege at the Tollgate Motel. Matthew Kim Morgan was shot by specialist police after he threatened the life of a hostage with a sawn-off shotgun. Following an inquest released in June, State Coroner David Whittle noted communication failures among officers during the siege but concluded that Morgan's death was not preventable except through different personal choices.
Authorities continue to investigate the recent infant death while maintaining a limited public profile as inquiries proceed.
