More than 15 years after a woman’s mutilated body was found abandoned in a Kern County vineyard, investigators are renewing their appeal for public assistance in identifying her killer. The victim, later identified as 64-year-old Ada Beth Kaplan Moore, was initially referred to as “Jane Doe 2011” after her remains were discovered in March 2011.

Moore’s body was located on March 29, 2011, along a dirt road adjacent to a grape vineyard east of Wheeler Ridge Road in Arvin, approximately 60 miles north of Santa Clarita. At the time, she had been living in the area. According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the perpetrator took extensive measures to conceal her identity. The body was found without clothing, the head was missing, both thumbs had been removed, and investigators believe her blood had been drained prior to the remains being left at the scene.

Officials described the discovery as particularly unusual compared to other cases involving bodies found in remote, agricultural locations throughout Kern County. The manner in which Moore was killed and the efforts to obscure her identity have continued to challenge investigators over the years.

The Sheriff’s Office has now intensified its outreach, urging anyone who may have known Moore—whether by her full name, Ada Beth Moore, or under the name Ada Kaplan—to provide any relevant information. Authorities have emphasized that any details, no matter how minor, could prove crucial to solving the case.
