Santa Ana police fatally shot a 16-year-old boy Sunday night during a family disturbance, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of South Main Street after officers responded to a call concerning a violent domestic dispute.
According to a police statement, officers were dispatched following a report from a man who said his girlfriend’s son was intoxicated, damaging property, and had stabbed him. Upon arrival, officers encountered the teenager armed with a knife. The officers discharged their weapons, and the boy died at the scene.
Santa Ana police spokesperson Natalie Garcia said the primary objective in such situations is to de-escalate tensions to prevent fatal outcomes. She stated officers made efforts to calm the situation before the shooting occurred.
No officers were harmed during the incident. The Santa Ana Police Department’s Homicide Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and the Orange County district attorney’s office have launched investigations into the shooting.
