Authorities in southern New South Wales fatally shot a man during an armed standoff on Sunday afternoon following a car crash. Police responded to reports that a vehicle had collided with a tree on Corringe Lane, approximately 84 kilometers north of Yass, at around 2:50 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a Chrysler station wagon crashed into a tree, with the driver appearing unconscious behind the wheel. As officers approached to provide assistance, the man allegedly pointed a rifle at them, prompting police to open fire.
Emergency responders attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man at the scene, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The individual, believed to be around 45 years old, has not yet been formally identified.
NSW Police confirmed that no officers sustained injuries during the incident. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
