Pomona authorities arrested a man following a deadly shooting that left two people dead inside an apartment complex on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred near the intersection of Monterey and Garey avenues, where officers arrived shortly before 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.
Among the victims was 24-year-old Veronica Lopez, who relatives confirmed lived in San Diego and had been in a relationship with the suspect, Robert Galtman, for approximately two years. The identity of the second victim has not been released by law enforcement. Police described the incident as a double homicide.
According to officials, Galtman allegedly shot both victims before fleeing the scene. A multi-agency police chase ensued on the freeway, which was broadcast live on television, culminating in his arrest.
The tragedy has left the Lopez family grieving and seeking answers. Sheila Lopez, Veronica’s mother, expressed deep anguish over her daughter’s death, questioning the motives behind the shooting. Family members had reportedly voiced concerns about the relationship prior to the violence.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the double homicide, but no further details have been disclosed at this time.
