Gavin, a three-year-old gelding by Lucas Cranach out of Faithful Rose, has shown signs of resurgence following a challenging run at Grafton Racecourse. The horse, owned by Stephen and Jordan Lee and trained under the stable code P’Money STS 73, has participated in 22 starts with a record that includes five placings.

On July 5, Gavin finished sixth in a 1720-meter maiden event at Grafton. Ridden by jockey J. Grisdale and carrying a 59-kilogram weight, the horse faced soft track conditions and completed the race in 1:45.31. Despite an early setback when hampered in the race and a wide trip throughout, Gavin remained competitive, settling sixth for most of the race, including the final turn.

A marked improvement was evident in Gavin’s next appearance on July 24, again at Grafton over a shorter distance of 1630 meters. With C. Whiteley aboard and carrying 55 kilograms, Gavin overcame his earlier challenges to deliver a decisive 2.5-length victory. The race, run on soft ground, was completed in 1:38.24, with Gavin producing an explosive finish during the last 600 meters.

This recent success reflects Gavin’s ongoing preparation and increasing readiness to compete at a higher level. Despite a modest overall win rate of 9.1 percent and a place rate of 45.5 percent across varied track conditions—including firm, good, soft, and heavy surfaces—the gelding has demonstrated the ability to perform particularly well on soft ground.

The positive outcome has encouraged connections to maintain confidence in Gavin’s future prospects. With jockey C. Whiteley retaining the mount, the horse is expected to continue showing improvement and make a significant impact in upcoming races, especially when balanced with appropriate breaks in his training schedule.
