A portrait of British singer Charli XCX has been added to the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection, marking a notable recognition of the artist’s impact on contemporary pop culture. The photograph, taken by Harley Weir in 2023, captures Charli during the era of her 2024 album, *Brat*, which has garnered significant critical and commercial attention.

Brandei Estes, a representative from the National Portrait Gallery, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, describing Charli XCX as “one of the defining cultural figures of her generation.” Estes also praised Weir’s photographic style for its combination of intimacy and a commanding presence. The portrait is now on display in the gallery’s History Makers Now exhibition, with its addition made possible through support from the Bukhman Foundation.

The album *Music, Fashion, Film*, released on July 21, has attracted widespread acclaim since its debut. It follows a string of successes for Charli XCX this year, including a No. 1 UK chart position earlier in February with her *Wuthering Heights* soundtrack. Currently, *Music, Fashion, Film* holds the top spot in the midweek UK charts and could become Charli’s fourth overall UK No. 1 album and second of 2024.

In addition to the album’s release, Charli XCX shared three new songs over the weekend—“I Keep on Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,” “Playboy Bunny,” and “If You Take Away the Music Then What Has She Got?”—which were initially intended as B-sides. Despite initial reservations about releasing them on streaming platforms, citing concerns about maintaining the songs’ ethos, she made them available on iTunes in response to fans’ demand.

Looking ahead, Charli XCX is set to headline the Reading and Leeds festivals later this summer, followed by a North American tour scheduled for September and October, continuing her active presence in the international music scene.
